What can go in a dumpster rental?

Accepted materials depend on the quoted load type. The safest rule is to describe the project and confirm unusual items before they enter the bin.

Common household and renovation material

Many mixed-waste rentals are planned for non-hazardous household contents and renovation debris such as wood, cabinets, flooring, drywall and fixtures. Acceptance is not universal, and appliances, electronics, mattresses or bulky items may have special rules.

Heavy clean material is different

Concrete, brick, soil and sod are dense. They may require a separate clean-fill bin and a strict loading height. Mixing them with household or renovation waste can change disposal handling and cost, so identify them before booking.

Items that commonly need another route

  • Paint, solvents, fuels and unknown liquids
  • Propane cylinders and pressurized containers
  • Batteries and chemicals
  • Asbestos-containing or suspected hazardous construction material
  • Medical or regulated waste

Peel Region's waste tools and Community Recycling Centres provide current guidance for many household items. Use the official source rather than guessing.

Before loading: photograph or list questionable items and confirm them by phone. Removing a prohibited item from a packed bin is harder than getting the answer first.

Load safely

Keep debris below the top rail, prevent objects from hanging over the sides and distribute weight without creating an unstable pile. The bin must be safe to cover, move and transport.
